    What CostSlab is

CostSlab is a Houston cost-research service that publishes what concrete and epoxy projects actually cost in Greater Houston, so you can judge any contractor's quote before you sign it.

Most price information online fails Houston homeowners in one of two ways. National cost sites average together prices from New York and rural Ohio, producing a number that matches no real Houston quote. Contractor websites do the opposite: they hide the price entirely and use your phone number as the product. CostSlab publishes the middle ground — Houston-specific ranges, compiled from Angi's Houston cost guides, HomeGuide pricing data and quotes from Houston-area contractors, with the size tables and per-square-foot math shown on every page.

Every guide on this site follows the same discipline: a direct answer first, the numbers in tables, the local reasons Houston prices move (expansive clay soil, Gulf humidity, flood-zone moisture, HOA rules in master-planned suburbs), and an honest statement of what we are — an information and referral service, not a contractor. When you are ready for real numbers on your own project, you can build a quote request and have it sent to a local professional.

How the calculator works — and where its numbers come from

The calculator multiplies your project's square footage by published Houston per-square-foot rates for the finish you pick, then adjusts for thickness, old-concrete removal and your suburb's price index.

Nothing in the calculator is a black box. The finish rates are the same ranges printed in our guides: plain driveway concrete at $8–$12 per square foot, stamped finishes at $14–$20, epoxy systems at $3–$9.50, and plain Texas slab concrete at $6–$15 depending on load. A 5-inch pour adds about 12% and a 6-inch pour about 25%, matching the extra concrete volume. Tear-out of an old slab adds $1.50–$3.00 per square foot. Finally, the suburb index adjusts the subtotal — from 0.92 in Rosenberg to 1.08 in The Woodlands — because labor, access and HOA requirements genuinely differ across Greater Houston. The itemized breakdown under your estimate lists each of these lines separately, so you can compare it line-by-line against a contractor's written quote.

Our methodology is simple and stated openly: we compile the published Houston ranges from Angi's Houston cost guides and HomeGuide, cross-check them against quotes from Houston-area contractors, and re-check the full set at least twice a year. Prices here are estimates for planning, not quotes — your soil, slab condition, access and finish choices will move a real bid. Last updated: October 2026.

Prices change by suburb — sometimes by 15%

A driveway that costs $6,310 at the Houston average runs about $6,815 in The Woodlands and about $5,805 in Rosenberg — a spread of more than $1,000 for the same job.

Labor rates, lot access, HOA design rules and soil conditions are not the same in Rosenberg as they are in The Woodlands. We track a local price index for 12 Houston-area suburbs — Katy, Sugar Land, Richmond, The Woodlands, Cypress, Pearland, Spring, Pasadena, Missouri City, Fulshear, Cinco Ranch and Rosenberg — with a short local profile and typical driveway and epoxy prices for each, so your estimate starts from your neighborhood instead of a national average.
